How to Qualify Your ICP on LinkedIn (Beyond Sales Navigator Filters)

24 June 2026

Most B2B outreach fails before the first message is sent — because it's aimed at the wrong people. And the tool most teams trust for targeting, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, gets it wrong more often than anyone admits.

Why Sales Navigator filters mislead you

Sales Navigator filters on what people put on their profile, not on reality. That creates predictable false positives:

  • The "CEO" who is actually a middle manager with a one-person side project.
  • The "Founder" title attached to a dormant venture, while the person works full-time elsewhere.
  • Senior titles at huge corporates where the real budget sits three layers away.
  • Keyword matches that have nothing to do with actual buying authority.

Filter by "CEO" + "SaaS" + "11–50 employees" and a meaningful chunk of your list won't match your real ideal customer profile at all. Every one of those is a wasted touch — and at scale, wasted touches are wasted reputation.

What real ICP qualification looks like

Qualifying your ICP properly means going beyond the profile and asking harder questions:

  1. Is this a real business or a side project? Check for signals: company page activity, website, team size, hiring, funding, consistency between the person's role and the company's footprint.
  2. Does the title match the company? A "Head of Growth" at a 3-person startup and at a 3,000-person enterprise are completely different buyers. Cross-reference title against company size and industry.
  3. Is this person actually a decision-maker for what you sell — or an influencer, a gatekeeper, or unrelated?
  4. Does the fit score justify the effort? Not every "match" deserves a full multichannel sequence. Rank by real fit.

A practical qualification checklist

Before anyone enters your outreach sequence, confirm:

  • ✅ The company is real and active (site, page, employees, recent activity).
  • ✅ Company size and industry match your ICP — not just the job title.
  • ✅ The person's role plausibly has authority or strong influence over the purchase.
  • ✅ There's a credible trigger or reason to reach out now.
  • ✅ It's not an employee at a large company moonlighting on a personal venture.

Doing this by hand for hundreds of prospects is brutal. Doing it badly is worse than not doing it — because it scales your mistakes.

How FloScale qualifies ICP intelligently

This is one of the core problems FloScale was built to solve. Its intelligent ICP qualification detects side projects versus actual business owners, cross-references job titles against company size and industry, filters out employees at large corporates with personal ventures, and scores and ranks leads by real ICP fit — not just profile keywords.

The payoff is simple: fewer touches wasted on the wrong people, higher response rates from the right ones, and a healthier sender reputation across every channel.

Better targeting is the highest-leverage improvement you can make to B2B outreach. Get the who right, and everything downstream — your messaging, your channels, your reply rates — gets easier.
